The Line: natural, expressive, abstract

Contrary to natural lines, abstract lines do not (directly) refer to the visible world. Abstract lines can be used as holder of a composition, create texture, generate energy (i.e. works of Jackson Pollock).

Abstract lines may refer to an inner world, an idea or a state of being. They can be symbolic or lyrical, repetitive and rhythmic (i.e. works of Cy Twombly). Essential is that the line in art has in potential an enormous communicative power. And, fun. It is in direct contact with the playful character of the mind.

Most paintings in this booklet are about coloured space. The awareness of silence plays an important role. "If painting is based upon the expression of thought rather than mere visual reactions or sensations, then it can be simultaneous with philosophical thought, it can also be the source of philosophical decisions, it can be a philosophical expression" ( Mark Rothko).

Zwols Schilders Collectief. Abstract werk

Het Zwols Schilders Collectief werkt met wisselende samenstelling. Dit boekje (2017) bevat werken van onder meer Sylvie Arrabito, Maria Kuiken, Greetje van der Lugt en Lies van Nierop. Maria Kuiken stelde het samen naar aanleiding van een gezamenlijke expositie.

Wat de mensen van het schilderscollectief gemeen heeft, is dat ze een avontuurlijke zoektocht zijn aangegaan naar de expressiemogelijkheden van de abstracte schilderkunst. Ze voelen zich aangetrokken tot die abstractie en laten hun passie spreken. Ieder komt met een eigen benadering. Het persoonlijke achter het abstracte.
